ReplyDeleteMichele,First thing that strikes me is if the ctruule is not consistent, then it's not conscious. As far a starting point: try asking questions that identify staff turnover rates, customer turnover rates, how often managers have to deal with petty stuff (arguments etc) and whether or not senior management can, with precision, identify customer satisfaction rates or is it all just happening by accident? If they want to do it well, on purpose, more often then they will have to address what kind of ctruule they would like to have, paint a picture of the perfect employee, visualize the perfect customer and get a handle on the stuff just happening by accident. If it's working well by accident, it can work terribly by accident too. Hope this helps.Kevin
ReplyDeleteHi Kevin:Always enjoy reading your posts. I have been thinnikg a lot about culture lately. Interesting point about where it begins, or really manifests itself. I have a client that is right on the edge of having a great culture open, informal, somewhat flat, and accountable. I m not sure how much is conscious vs. unconscious because it's not terribly consistent across the board. I have the ear of one senior partner, but I haven't met everyone yet. Any ideas about how to get them interested in really tackling their culture and making it consistent and accountable?
ReplyDeleteI love the rural Maine cover! And what fun to have copies of the fieorgn editions! So far I've only had a fieorgn edition of one of my books Shadows at the Fair was sold to a Japanese publisher, and I treasure my copy. It's a 4 x 6 inch paperback, with dustcover, with a lovely botanical print on the cover. Of course, it's on what we in the west would think of as the back. Very special! Thanks for sharing your international editions!

ReplyDeleteThat cover for Noveau Message is hysterical.I susepct Czech readers of historicals treat the covers the same way we learned to treat those racy Perry Mason covers of our youth. I remember as a young teen reading the ones my grandparents had on the bookself in their guestroom seaching desparately for the naughty bits displayed on the cover. Eventually, I accepted that they were never coming.
