My beauty secrets

Okay, so today I thought I would part with some of my best kept secrets. These products are seriously those ones that you know are too good to be true so you want to keep all their benefits to yourself. If I did that, it would be so very selfish of me, because this stuff works wonders. And trust me, I have tried every possible product under the sun.

What I use Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) for:  ACV is a natural treatment - It helps your skin function optimally, warding off bacteria and shedding dead skin cells at the proper rate, so pores are unblocked and skin remains healthy.  I use it how I would use any toner, except I dilute it with water. I love that ACV doesn't have any nasty chemicals in it. My opinion for store bought toners now is "If I can't pronounce the name of the chemical, then I probably shouldn't be using it on my skin".

Since using ACV my skin is so much softer and if a pimple comes up it's gone the next day! Win, win! The oiliness in my T-zone has been significantly reduced, pores have become smaller and blackheads are now few and far between. So if you're looking for a cheap at home solution to naughty skin problems, ACV is the way to go.

My advice to you: 1)Buy any brand you feel comfortable buying, 2) Dilute with water, you can then make it stronger or weaker depending on how it feels. I normally make it pretty strong, 3) Apply like you would any toner, 4) It will sting at first but you will be okay, 5) Trial it for 10 days before making a judgement. You skin generally takes a little bit of time to get used to new things. 6) It does smell, but you will get used to it and once it has dried you can't smell it anymore.

What I use Rosehip oil for: Rehydrate my skin. It basically replaces my moisturiser. It gets deep inside, instead of resting right on the surface like most of my moisturisers do. I've only been using it for a month or so, and I am happy so far!

My advice to you: Use it lightly. You don't need heaps!!!

I hope this has been helpful! Have you used this before? Share some of your secrets in the comment form, I'd love to hear them!

  2. Rosehip oil is awesome! Only a drop or 2 on damp skin and it spreads easily. Argan oil is great as well, but only the 100% pure stuff (not Moroccanoil branded argan oil as it has nasties). Argan is great for skin and hair. I use ACV, but as a hair rinse. I'll try it as a toner : )
Loving your blog by the way! x

I use ACV but as a hair rinse, I'll give it as go as a toner : ) I currently use a witchhazel based toner, no nasties in it though. Rosehip oil is great, only a couple of drops on damp skin and that's it! I also like Argan Oil (pure stuff, not Moroccanoil!) as you can use it for skin and hair. x

  5. Ooh great idea with the apple cider vinegar, and I have had rosehip oil on my 'to try' list for ages! With apple cider vinegar (I buy it for cooking/health benefits) try to go for one that is unfiltered - it usually isn't that clear colour, more of a murky brown - you get it in the health food aisle of the supermarket. Same thing but just less refined = more good stuff!

My little secret is a facial scrub using bicarb soda - yep the one for cooking, in the blue and white box, I put it in a little bowl dry, wet my hands and face, pick some of the dry powder up and work it around my face in a circular motion as an exfoliant. I leave it for a minute or so (while brushing my teeth) and when I rinse it off (with luke warm water) my face is baby smooth. I have found it makes any pimples under the surface come up almost as if it is clearing them out. I imagine it would be even better in combination with an ACV toner :)

    Thanks for the tips Ally!

    1. Hey Jas! Yeah! I used to use the bicarb, but found it dried out my skin too much :-( But yes, it leaves your skin feeling baby soft! Thanks for sharing! I'll have to look in the health food isle! XXX

  6. Love the tips Ally, I find that a lot of the expensive brand chemical-based cleansers and toners end up drying my skin out so much that I end up getting more blemishes later than I would've originally. Do you use ACV + rosehip daily, or just when you have blemishes? :) x

  9. I'm a massive rosehip oil fan. I like to do a manuka honey mask at least once a week. I just warm it a little in the microwave then paint it on, leave 15mins and rinse off. It always leaves my skin so soft and because of the antibacterial properties in manuka it's great at cleansing the skin. It's also anti-inflamatory and takes redness away. If my skin is feeling a bit dry I add a little olive oil to the honey or if I want to tighten my skin I add an egg yolk. x

    1. I just use a mild cleanser called cetaphil. Because of the acidity in the ACV, I find I dont need a scrub as it removes the dead skin cells! XX
